Public Data Notice

Last updated

Social Parse is an API that developers and companies use to read public social media pages as structured data. This notice is for the people whose public profiles, posts or comments may appear in its results.

What data is involved

Only what anyone can see on a platform without logging in: public profile details, such as name, handle, bio, follower counts and picture, and public posts, videos and comments with their counts and dates. The Service never signs in, so private profiles, private groups, messages and anything else behind a login are out of its reach.

How it's used

Data is fetched when a customer asks for it, and returned to that customer. We don't build profiles of people, gather what we fetch into a database, or sell it. Our Terms forbid customers to use it for surveillance, background checks, facial recognition, re-identifying people or targeting ads at individuals.

Where data protection laws such as the GDPR apply, we rely on legitimate interests: making information that people chose to publish available in a structured form, within those limits.

How long it's kept

  • Responses: cached for a few minutes, so the same request can be answered again without fetching the page, then deleted. Content deleted at its source drops out within those minutes.
  • Pages kept for repairs: to keep the data correct when a platform changes its pages, we keep the last page read successfully for each kind of data and the latest one that failed, until a newer one replaces it. Service providers, including an AI service, may process these pages only to repair the extraction.
  • Backups: our database's backups hold copies of these pages for 30 days after they're replaced or deleted, so we can recover from a failure.
  • Nothing else: we keep no archive of what we fetch. Customers keep their own copies, under their own responsibility.

Your choices

  • Remove it at the source. Once you delete content or make it private on the platform, the Service can no longer fetch it.
  • Ask us. Email [email protected] with the platform and a link to your profile or post to ask what we hold about you, to have it deleted, or to object to its use. We reply within 30 days.
  • Ask the customer. A business that uses Social Parse decides how it uses the data it receives; ask it about its copies.
