Use cases/Market research
Market research API
Communities describe products, switching and frustrations in their own words. Find the subreddits where your market talks, search inside them, and read whole comment threads as JSON for analysis.
Endpoints
The endpoints market research uses, each a GET request with your key in the x-api-key header.
| Endpoint | Request | Returns |
|---|---|---|
| Subreddit searchReddit | GET /v1/reddit/search/subreddits?q=python | Subreddits that match a search, with their details. |
| Subreddit post searchReddit | GET /v1/reddit/subreddits/search?q=push+ups&subreddit=Fitness | Posts in one subreddit that match a search. |
| Subreddit postsReddit | GET /v1/reddit/subreddits/posts?subreddit=Python | A subreddit's posts, in the order you choose. |
| Post commentsReddit | GET /v1/reddit/posts/comments?post_id=1wkziub | A post's comments in thread order, each with its depth. |
| SearchThreads | GET /v1/threads/search?q=coffee | Posts that match a search: Threads' top results. |
How it works
- 1Find the communitiesSearch subreddits by topic; weekly visitors and contributions show how active each is.
- 2Collect the threadsSearch inside each community, or take its top posts of the month.
- 3Read the commentsFetch each thread's comments, with their scores and how deep they sit.
- 4AnalyzeScore sentiment, count the features people mention, and weigh comments by their upvotes.
Try it
Save your key and the base URL, then make the first calls:
export API_KEY="your-api-key"
export API_URL="https://api.socialparse.dev"
curl -H "x-api-key: $API_KEY" "$API_URL/v1/reddit/search/subreddits?q=python"
curl -H "x-api-key: $API_KEY" "$API_URL/v1/reddit/subreddits/search?q=push+ups&subreddit=Fitness"
curl -H "x-api-key: $API_KEY" "$API_URL/v1/reddit/subreddits/posts?subreddit=Python"Why it fits
- No Reddit OAuth app, approval or commercial contract to start.
- Comment threads come with depth and parent ids, so you can rebuild the conversation.
- Pay per page of results; errors are free.
FAQ
Can I read private or members-only communities?
No. Only what a logged-out visitor can see is read; a private community answers LOGIN_REQUIRED.
How many comments do I need?
A few hundred comments give a steady read on a topic; with fewer, a single thread can swing the result.
Can I filter by date?
Sort by new, or by top with a time window: hour, day, week, month, year or all.
